Fed up with “the whole industrial system,” artist Pam Murphy and her husband John decided to become modern-day homesteaders who grow their own food and raise and butcher their own livestock.

“I almost didn’t want to eat anymore because it’s just so disheartening, all the pesticides and herbicides and antibiotics and the way the animals are treated, what they’re fed,” Murphy said in Homesteading in Door County.
