The Sturgeon Bay Middle School was buzzing with activity on Aug. 3, when hundreds of Door County children and their families attended the 21st Back-to-School Fair, guided by more than 100 passionate, red-shirted volunteers. Children received new backpacks of their choice, grade-appropriate school supplies, school spirit shirts, new gym shoes and socks, and other new items. Leisure reading books were supplied in part by the Friends of the Door County Library.
This event, sponsored by Altrusa International of Door County, embodies the organization’s focus on literacy and addressing community needs. Local supporters include Associated Bank, Hatco, MMG Foundation, Palmer Foundation, the Salvation Army, the Door County Community Foundation, Target, United Way, the Walmart Foundation, WPS, the Women’s Fund and many more businesses and individuals.
