10th Annual Golden Heart Award Recipients Announced

On April 26, The Volunteer Center of Door County held the 10th Annual Golden Heart Volunteer Celebration, “Volunteers – Growing our Community.” Over 300 guests attended to celebrate volunteer efforts throughout Door County.

Paige Kassner, 13-year-old organizer of “Warm Hands, Warm Hearts,” gave the keynote address “Anyone Can Make a Difference.” Marti Spittell Ziegelbauer was the Master of Ceremonies and presented each nominee with a crystal Tara Niko Rossman sun catcher and a complimentary dinner.

Award recipients received $500 to donate to a Door County charity of their choice in addition to a custom designed art piece by Chad Luberger of Plum Bottom Pottery. The Youth winner received a $500 academic scholarship and an engraved keychain from Samara Jewelry Designs.

The 2012 award recipients are Gina Wautier (adult), Steve Graf (arts & culture), Leadership Door County (group), Matthias Olson (youth) and Gloria Dernbach (lifetime of service).
