TAP to Begin 2016 Season in March with “The Amish Project”

Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) will start the 2016 season with The Amish Project, to be performed March 3 – 20. This play is a stirring tribute to the strength of community and the power of forgiveness. Praised by the New York Times as “extraordinary,” this devastating and beautiful one-woman tour-de-force will be performed by TAP’s 2015 artist-in-residence, Katherine Duffy. She is reprising her role from last winter’s production of the play at the Milwaukee Rep.

The play compels us to question the paths we take at the crossroads of grief, rage and clemency. Inspired by the 2006 school shootings in Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania, this fictional account of a real-life tragedy allows us to glimpse into the world of Amish culture, and to come to grips with the true limits of compassion and forgiveness.

The play was written by Jessica Dickey and is directed by James Valcq. The Amish Project contains strong language and violent imagery.

Performances are scheduled for Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm. A pay-what-you-can preview performance will be March 2. Tickets are $25 general admission and $10 students.

TAP is currently in the process of updating their ticketing system. There are no online sales at this time. They hope to have it up and running by early February, if not sooner. In the meantime, to purchase tickets call 920.743.1760 or visit their box office. The box office is open Tuesday through Friday, 12 – 5 pm. The daytime box office is located at 234 N. Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay directly across the street from the playhouse.
