Eight Gibraltar Marketing Education DECA competitors earned outstanding awards at the 2016 District Level Career Development Conference held on Jan. 9 at Bay Port High School in Suamico. DECA is an international student organization developing future business leaders in marketing, entrepreneurship and management.
The Buying and Merchandising Team of Audrey Sitte and Collin Strege medaled in Channel Management Role Play. Ian Bennett competed in the Restaurant Series, earning medals in Customer Relations and Operations Role Play. Brandon Emery-Janzen earned medals in the Marketing Management Series Marketing Exam and Selling Role Play. Bradley Prust and Derek Beard earned third place overall in Financial Services Team. Connor Moore medaled two of three events and earned second place overall in the Business Finance Series. Jon Kordon swept up in the Restaurant Marketing with medals in all three events, and earning first place in Restaurant Marketing Series.
Advisor Mary Jo Witteborg and area business people Mert Larsen, Teri Berndt, Caitlin Oleson, Bob Loss and Christine Salmon helped the students prepare for the competition. In addition to coaching, they judged students from other school districts. Additional judges were Barbara Luhring, Lynn Herman, Tim Mulrain and Casey St. Henry. Six students advance to the State Career Development Conference March 8-10 in Lake Geneva with eyes on the International CDC in Nashville, Tenn., in April.
