Curious to get a glimpse of an eclectic new art scene in the county? New works by 12 twenty-something year-olds will be on display from Friday, August 22 through Friday, September 12 at Peninsula School of Art, in the Youth Barn near the school’s main entrance. The opening reception is free and open to the public and will be held at the School from 5 – 7:30pm on Friday, August 22. The art school is located at 3900 County Road F in Fish Creek.

Each year the Peninsula School of Art hires two to three college interns to assist in the operations of the school. Cathy Hoke-Gonzales, Executive Director, says “The internship program helps students gain exposure to the inside workings of an arts-related business and to see other possibilities for using their arts degree.”

As part of the internship program, the school offers each intern an opportunity to work on a project of their choosing. Youth Arts intern Logan Woods, asked about the possibility of developing an exhibition for up and coming Door County artists. “12 Under 30″ is the results of his efforts along with those 2008 summer interns Camille Demarinis and Ryan Leynse.

The show intends to both introduce the public to rising young artists from their community, as well as to provide an opportunity for the artists to gain experience exhibiting their work. Participating artists include: Maggie Banks, Camille Demarinis, Patrick Gantert, Sam Gray, Soirsce Kastner, Ryan Leynse, Dan Listwan, John McCaulley, Jamie Mead, Janna Nelson, Logan Woods and Seth Zakula.

A variety of media will be on display – painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, photography, installation, and video – combining to form a compelling array of work with genres ranging from figurative realism to abstract and conceptual. This will be a wonderful opportunity to discover what exciting fresh waves are rippling through Door County’s art community.

The Peninsula Art School is open Monday through Saturday, 9 am – 5 pm. For more information visit http://www.peninsulaartschool.com.
