12th Annual Sturgeon Bay Fire & Ice Weekend

Carve out some time to come to Sturgeon Bay on Feb. 18 for the 12th annual Sturgeon Bay Fire and Ice weekend. Snow and ice carvers will sculpt masterpieces throughout downtown Sturgeon Bay Friday and Saturday, competing for cash prizes and the recognition of the People’s Choice Award (ice carving only). Revelers will dine and dance the night away at the sold out, black-tie-optional Fire & Ice Gala at Stone Harbor Resort Saturday night.

National Championship snow sculptors are scheduled to carve as many snow blocks as can be made, putting their artistic skills to the test to outdo each other’s creativity. Test your own carving flair with free-carve snow blocks (if available) in Martin Park (207 S. Third Ave).

Sturgeon Bay businesses are sponsoring 15 ice blocks for carving. Volunteers with a flair for the creative will chip and smooth away at 300 pound blocks of crystal clear ice, between 9 am and 2 pm. They compete for both the People’s Choice Award, and cash prizes for first, second and third place in beginner, intermediate and advanced categories, as evaluated by a panel of experienced ice carving judges. Judges will make their determinations after 2 pm and the award ceremony will take place at the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center office (36 S. Third Ave.) at 3 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony.

Tour Sturgeon Bay on Saturday and watch the carvers via free trolley rides from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. For more information, call 920.743.6246 or email [email protected].
