Movies that Matter Screens Citizenfour

A free screening of Citizenfour will be shown at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Ephraim on June 21 at 4:30 pm. This 2014 documentary film tells the story of Edward Snowden and the NSA spying scandal.

In January 2013, Laura Poitras, an American documentary film director/producer who had been working for several years on a film about monitoring programs in the U.S. that were the result of the Sept. 11 attacks, received an encrypted email from a stranger who called himself “Citizen Four.” In it, he offers her inside information about illegal wiretapping practices of the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and other intelligence agencies. In June 2013, accompanied by investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald and The Guardian intelligence reporter Ewen MacAskill, she travels to Hong Kong with her camera for the first meeting with the stranger, who reveals himself as Edward Snowden.

The film is part of the monthly Movies That Matter series examining a wide range of issues. The UU Fellowship is located at 10341 Hwy. 42 in north Ephraim. For more information call 920.854.7559.
