Door County artist Marcia Nickols is this season’s featured artist at Gills Rock Coffee, and will exhibit in the 13th annual Gills Rock ArtFest. The ArtFest is presented on the grounds of Gills Rock Coffee, formerly the home of Charlene’s Gallery Ten, in Gills Rock.
Nickols’ paper collages have an old-world feel. After visiting Egypt in 2009, she fell in love with the strong colors and designs of temple art. Her designs are finished with other hand-made papers from Egypt and Thailand, as well as natural found materials and metals.
Gills Rock ArtFest will be held Aug. 31 – Sept. 1, 10 am – 5 pm. The event will be a reunion of artists who formally displayed work at Charlene’s Gallery Ten: Joe Hernandez, Ray Kapfamer, Chris Meissner, Anne Nikolai Kloss, Norm Knott, Kris Franzke, Denny Moutray, Dee Santorini, Shannon Molter, Mark Haberle, and Sue Donohoo.
Bayside Bakery and Cafe will provide a food tent. Owner LynLee Fries will serve sandwiches and made-from-scratch bakery. Gills Rock Coffee will be open for extended hours on both days, from 8 am to 5 pm, offering specialty coffee drinks and showcasing Charlene’s first-prizewinning Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie.
Gills Rock Coffee is located at 12625 Highway 42. For more information, call 920.854.9907.
