14-Unit Condo Proposed for Sister Bay

Another condominium complex may be coming to Sister Bay next year – this one set snugly behind the Sister Bay Yacht Club on the corner of Maple Drive and Mill Road.

Developer Al Gokey has proposed a 14-unit condominium complex that would be used primarily as transient lodging through vacation rentals. The three-story complex would include a lounge bar for guests and a one-room spa on the first floor. Gokey said he does not anticipate having to do any blasting for the site, which sits at the base of the bluff.

The Sister Bay Plan Commission got its first look at the broad strokes of the plan Dec. 7.

“The cool part of this property is that it’s secluded, but it’s also downtown,” Gokey said.

Gokey said the complex would be overseen by staff split among the spa; the lounge bar, which would serve guests only; and the reception area, where they would assist guests with check-in. Outside contractors would clean the 14 units, he said.

“Does anyone else think 14 units going out on Vrbo without anyone on-site is maybe not such a great idea?” asked Nate Bell. “That makes me nervous.”

Several plan commissioners also expressed concern about parking needs at the complex.
