14th Annual Door County Shepherds’ Market

The public is invited to enjoy the 14th Annual Door County Shepherds’ Market, scheduled for Saturday, May 17 from 10 am – 4 pm and Sunday, May 18 from 10 am – 3 pm. The event is sponsored by the Door County Sheep and Goat Raisers, with additional support from the Arachne Spinners Guild of Door County and from Siever’s School of Fiber Art on Washington Island. Whitefish Bay Farm, 3831 Clark Lake Road (County WD), Sturgeon Bay, is once again hosting the market.

Continuing the tradition of being northeast Wisconsin’s oldest fiber fair, the 2008 Shepherds’ Market has an expanded selection of quality fibers, yarns, and handmade finished products. Fiber artist, Penny Angerer will be demonstrating hand spindle spinning throughout both days. Rosie Dittmann, another local fiber artist, will have “hands on” felting demonstrations on Saturday at 2 pm and Sunday at 11 am and 1 pm. There will be knitting demonstrations throughout both days, as well as spinning taking place on a variety of spinning wheels. Attendees are encouraged to touch fibers, to try hand spindle spinning, to ask fiber related questions and to have a wonderful time learning about sheep, goats and llamas.

Three spectacular fiber related items will be raffled – a weekend class of choice at Siever’s School of Fiber Art; a handwoven basket filled with handspun yarn created by members of the Arachne Spinners Guild; or an artist designed wooden box.

The event is held in the granary barn and the Whitefish Bay Farm flock of white and naturally colored Corriedale sheep and lambs will be grazing pastures near the barn, weather permitting. For more information, visit http://www.whitefishbayfarm.com/market.htm or telephone 920.743.1560.
