16th Annual Door County Shepherds’ Market Scheduled

The public is invited to attend the 16th Annual Door County Shepherds’ Market, scheduled for Saturday, May 22 from 10 am – 4 pm and Sunday, May 23 from 10 am – 3 pm. The event, sponsored by the Door County Sheep and Goat Raisers, with additional support from the Arachne Spinners Guild of Door County, will take place at Whitefish Bay Farm north of Sturgeon Bay.

Continuing the tradition of northeast Wisconsin’s oldest fiber fair, the 2010 Shepherds’ Market has an expanded selection of quality fibers, yarns, and handmade finished products. Fiber artists, Penny Angerer and Rosie Dittman will demonstrate hand spindle spinning and nuno felting. Two fiber related items will be raffled: a hand woven basket filled with handspun yarn created by members of the Arachne Spinners Guild and a hand spun, hand woven throw created by members of the Door County Sheep and Goat Raisers. Attendees are encouraged to touch fibers, try hand spindle spinning, and have a wonderful time learning about sheep, goats, and llamas, as well as spinning, weaving, knitting and felting.

The Shepherds’ Market is held in the granary barn of the Whitefish Bay Farm. Flocks of white and naturally colored Corriedale sheep and lambs will be grazing in pastures near the barn, weather permitting. For more information call 920.743.1560 or visit http://www.whitefishbayfarm.com/market.htm. Whitefish Bay Farm is located at 3831 Clark Lake Road (County WD), Sturgeon Bay.
