2,000 Runners Take on 50-mile Challenge Oct. 21

Throngs of costume-clad runners will pound the pavement all the way down the peninsula Saturday, Oct. 21, in the 12th annual Fall 50.

More than 100 runners will complete the 50-mile race solo, while another 450 teams, of 2 – 5 runners each, will complete the race in a relay.

The race starts near the northern tip of the peninsula at The Shoreline restaurant in Gills Rock. The course proceeds along roads on the county’s western shore for 50 miles, ending at Sturgeon Bay’s Sunset Park, where a massive party awaits.

The party features free beer and pizza and a dance party for participants, though nonparticipants can join the fun for a fee.

The course served as the venue for the 2014 and 2015 USATF 50-mile Road Race Championships and has welcomed some of the fastest 50-mile runners in the country in recent years.

The first waves of the race start at 7 am.

Chase Nowak won the 2016 solo competition with a time of 5:46:49, while Jamie Blumentritt paced the women’s side with a time of 7:30:50.

Most solo runners and teams will complete the race between 4 and 5:30 pm. View course maps and find more information at Fall50.com.
