2011 Tourism Numbers

Last year’s numbers are in, and it looks like Door County tourism was strong in 2011.

The Door County Tourism Zone Commission recently released numbers on room tax revenue, visitor spending and the reach of Door County Visitor Bureau advertising.

The results

• Visitor spending: $271.2 million, up by $4.3 million or 1.6 percent from 2010.

• Jobs supported by tourism spending: 2,921

• Room tax revenue: $3,289,439

• Visits to DoorCounty.com website: 1,130,558, up by 27,505 visits from 2010.

• Publicity value of advertising, communications and public relations: $4.5 million, up by $1.8 million from 2010

Although official numbers for summer 2012 room tax revenue won’t be posted until the fall, Jon Jarosh, director of communications for the Door County Visitor Bureau, said most innkeepers are reporting a busy season so far.

“Anecdotally from what we’ve been hearing it seems like reservations are up,” Jarosh said. “We’re optimistic that it’s going to be a decent year up here.”

At its June 21 meeting, the Door County Tourism Zone Commission also appointed new officers.
