2018 Earth Week Events

April 20

5 pm. Green Tier Legacy Community Update

Kress Pavilion

Will Erikson, the DNR Environmental Business Support Coordinator, gives an overview of what it means to be a Green Tier Legacy Community. Snacks, green drinks, and karaoke hosted by Caleb Frostman at 7 pm.  

 

April 21

9am-2pm. Friends of Potawatomi State Park Work Day

Potawatomi State Park, 3740 Park Dr, Sturgeon Bay

Volunteers will clean up campsites, do trail work, spread mulch and remove invasive species. Lunch provided. Meet at the shelter closest to the campground. Bring gloves and any yard tools. For more information visit runwild.org.

10am-1pm. International Migratory Bird Day, Earth Day Celebration

Egg Harbor Library/Kress Pavilion, 7845 Church Street

Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day and Earth Day with kids yoga (ages 3-7) with Ann Johnson of Serenity Bridge at 10:30 am. Crafts follow at 11 am. Open Door Bird Sanctuary will present “Hunters of the Sky” raptor program at noon.

Dean Hoegger, NEW Clean Water Action Council president, discusses the rights of citizens to protect ground and surface waters, opportunities for citizen participation, and barriers for citizen participation.

The Eden Project is a documentary about a group of individuals who turned an industrial waste site in England into one of the world’s most lush, educational and entertaining environmental centers. A Q&A will follow screening.

A 12-year-old boy searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

Inconvenient Truth, The Sequel follows former U.S. Vice President Al Gore’s continuing mission to battle climate change. Tony Gatenby leads a discussion after the film.

The Messenger is an investigation into the causes of songbird mass depletion and the people working to turn the tide. This film reveals how the issues facing birds also pose daunting implications for our planet.

This walk will cover a portion of the one-mile trail system near Kangaroo Lake, and take approximately 1½ to 2 hours. Register at doorcountylandtrust.org.

With a theme of “healthy water,” storytellers will share a story with 20 pictures and 20 seconds per picture. Each storyteller will interpret the water theme through story or spoken word.
