Coming into its third season, Open Door Pride Festival is offering a whole line-up of music. The featured artists complement the goal of the festival: to affirm and openly support the LGBTQIA+ community and the diverse community of Door County.
Saint Saunter, or Sarah Sakawa, is a DJ and event organizer from Madison. According to Tone Madison, Sakawa had been focused on organizing for-queer, by-queer events under the name Queer Pressure, which came to a close in April. This summer, Sakawa is hitting up Open Door Pride amid gigs at numerous Madison venues.
Under the name Kinder Creatures, indie electro pop duo Lillie Lemon and Erica Wobbles from California came to Door County for this year’s Steel Bridge Songfest and decided to stay for a set at Open Door Pride. They perform a “unique hybrid of acoustic and electric sounds.”
Heyward is an Americana artist who will be all over the county and northeastern Wisconsin this summer touring solo and with her band, Genevieve Heyward & The North. She’s releasing her sophomore EP, The River, at the end of June and released a music video and single in support of it June 1.
Cathy Grier and the Troublemakers
Blues singer and songwriter Cathy Grier moved to Door County to participate in the Steel Bridge Songfest and its songwriting collaborative; 2019 marked her fourth year of participation. During her time on the peninsula, she’s become a well-known name in the music scene, playing all over the place, all the time.
Singer/songwriter Dorothy Scott’s main mission has been to spread peace with her music. She came to Door County, fell in love and spent many years going back and forth between Brooklyn and the peninsula.
This teenage musician – a student of Cathy Grier – is playing at Open Door Pride for the third year.
This project by Michelle Wiltgen weaves together multiple elements – music, movement and meaning – through using a loop pedal and blending organic and electronic sounds, whether already written or on the spot.
This local teen is fresh out of participating in this year’s Steel Bridge Songfest.
Gender Confetti!!! is a queer punk band from Madison, fronted by Elyse Clouthier (all pronouns) and Sylvia Johnson (they/them or she/her). They pull inspiration from a wide variety of genres but seek to share music that’s “radical and explicitly political.” They’re releasing their debut studio album, WE’RE GAY, July 20.
Open Door Pride Festival takes place June 22, 11 am – 5 pm, at Martin Park in Sturgeon Bay. The festival features live music; an art station with screening printing, chalk art and more; and a variety of family-friendly activities.
