2020 Door County Reads Events: Jan. 25-31

Saturday, Jan. 25

• Kick-off author talk featuring a keynote address by Leif Enger, the author of Virgil Wander, with light refreshments and a book signing following the keynote, 2 pm, Sturgeon Bay High School auditorium, 1230 Michigan St. 

Sunday, Jan. 26

• Myles Dannhausen Jr. will share local baseball history and lore, 1 pm, Door County Brewing Company, 8099 Hwy 57 in Baileys Harbor.

Tuesday, Jan. 28

• Book discussion; both participants and listeners are welcome, 10:30 am, Ephraim Library, 9996 Water St. 

• Book discussion; both participants and listeners are welcome, 3:30 pm, Southern Door High School library, 2073 Cty DK in Brussels.      

• Door County Speaks demonstration: Learn about the new Door County Speaks oral-history kits, which will be available for checkout at every Door County Library branch starting in the spring, 6 pm, Sturgeon Bay Library, 107 S. 4th Ave. 

Wednesday, Jan. 29

• Book discussion; both participants and listeners are welcome, 1 pm, NWTC Learning and Innovation Center, 2438 S. Bay Shore Dr. in Sister Bay.   

• Great Lakes surfing dinner and talk, presented by Ryan Heise, with free refreshments provided by Wild Tomato and One Barrel Brewing Company, 5:30 pm, Egg Harbor Library/Kress Pavilion, 7845 Church St.

Thursday, Jan. 30

• Hometown Writing, led by Write On, Door County’s artistic director, Jerod Santek: Through guided exercises, discover how to tap into memories of certain locations and discover the stories those towns have to tell, 1-2:30 pm, Crossroads at Big Creek, 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay. 

• “Home Is More Than a Place”: During this presentation, learn some of the natural history of the wind, the lake and the creatures that figure so prominently in the story, and ponder how our communities often mirror nature, 7 pm, Crossroads at Big Creek, 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay. 

Friday, Jan. 31

• Hometown Writing, led by Write On, Door County’s artistic director, Jerod Santek: Through guided exercises, discover how to tap into memories of certain locations and discover the stories those towns have to tell, 10-11:30 am, Baileys Harbor Library, 2392 Cty F. 

• Third Avenue Playhouse’s play reading of Marjorie Prime, 7:30 pm, 239 N. 3rd Ave. in Sturgeon Bay.
