2020 Plans Are in Full Gear at DCVB

by Cambria Mueller and Jen Rogers, Door County Visitor Bureau (DCVB)

Looking to bring cheer to someone this holiday season? Look no further than a Door County gift certificate. Available in denominations of $10, $25 and $50, they can be used throughout the county. So far this year we’ve sold more than $350,000 in gift certificates! The best part of the program is that all money stays locally.

All businesses can participate, and no DCVB membership is required. Simply accept the certificate as cash and mail it to our office; we’ll write you a check for the face value. Stop in to our welcome center before Dec. 23 to get your certificates.

Speaking of holidays, our communication and PR department recently welcomed 11 journalists for a holiday-themed press trip. Some of the activities they enjoyed were the Merry-Time Festival of Trees at the Door County Maritime Museum, hiking at Whitefish Dunes State Park, exploring local shops and the Julbord dinner at Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant.

Each year we welcome press trips such as this one through our media marketing program. Since 2007, this program has generated more than $26 million worth of earned media for Door County, which means that the return on investment for this program is huge: For every dollar we’ve spent, we’ve received $11.09 worth of media coverage measured in terms of ad-value equivalency.

To learn more about the media marketing program and how your business can participate, contact Jon Jarosh at [email protected] or 920.818.1133.

The marketing staff has been busy creating a new wayfinding map that’s easy to read and use and that offers location information such as state parks, county parks, electric-vehicle charging stations, beaches, hiking and more. Stop by any area welcome center to get your own copy, or request a bulk order for your business by emailing Pat Nash at [email protected]

Since August, we’ve also been working on our guide and are excited to debut the 2020 Official Door County Destination Guide (formerly known as the Official Visitor Guide) in early January. Look for a press release next month about its arrival. If your business would like to offer the guide to your guests and customers, contact us at 920.743.4456 or [email protected] to arrange a delivery.

We presented our 2020 Co-op Partnership Advertising Program on Dec. 11, and it’s now open for sign-ups on a first-come, first-served basis to help maximize the value of businesses’ marketing dollars by offering opportunities that may otherwise be budgetarily unachievable. The program also offers new ad opportunities with potentially less risk than advertising outside of the co-op program. Email Laura Bradley at [email protected] if you have questions.

All of us here at the Door County Visitor Bureau wish you a safe and joyous holiday season. See you in 2020!
