2024 Sevastopol Hall of Fame Inductees Named

Three athletes, a coach and a state champion team will be inducted this year as part of the Sevastopol Athletic Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024.

Founded in 2022 by Sevastopol alumni and co-sponsored by the Pioneer Athletic Booster Club and the Sevastopol athletic department, the Hall of Fame’s third class of inductees will include:

• Male athlete Kirk Bushman, a distance runner who was part of the Pioneers’ WIAA Class C state runner-up cross country teams in 1980 and 1981 and also placed runner-up individually at state in 1980.

• Female athlete Haley (Moeller) Heimstead, a distance runner who was part of the Pioneers’ WIAA Division 3 state champion cross country team in 2006 and a Division 3 state qualifier in track and field in the 800- and 1600-meter runs, winning the 1600 title in 2008.

• Female athlete Sara (Junion) Laughrin, who played on Sevastopol’s WIAA Division 3 state champion softball team in 2007 and went on to play college softball at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

• Coach Darrel Severson, who coached cross country, track and field and boys basketball at Sevastopol, leading the Pioneer boys cross country team to WIAA Class 3 state runner-up finishes in 1980 and 1981, as well as a Division 3 state runner-up finish in 1998.

• The 1984 Sevastopol volleyball team, which won the WIAA Division 3 state title.

“It’s great to see our Hall of Fame growing and having this opportunity to establish pride, preserve our athletic history, and honor our former student-athletes and coaches for their achievements and contributions to Sevastopol High School Athletics has been wonderful,” said Sevastopol High School Athletic Director Brooke Tanck.

The Class of 2024 will be inducted on Friday, Sept. 13, during a private banquet for family and friends from 4:30-6:30 pm in the Pioneer Room. Inductees will also be announced at the home football game at Pioneer Stadium that evening.
