Notes from the Grove

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• June 28, 2011 is the date that has been selected for the Community Well Testing Program. Well water samples turned in that day will be transported to UW-Stevens Point for in-depth analysis. The testing will cover three major categories: metals, pesticides, and bacteria. Each test will require a separate water sample. The town has already received several volunteers to have their wells tested. The three tests cost a total of $103. Each test requires a separate sample. We are looking for 75-150 samples to provide extensive data on the condition of wells in the town. Please contact the Town Office for additional information.

• Informational sessions on the possible purchase of shore parcels in Gills Rock will be held August 17 and August 31. A vote of Town Electors is scheduled for September 8. The Board of Review will be held August 18. The summer “Listening Session” is August 25. For additional information on any of the meetings please contact the Town Office.

• The Finance Committee will begin meeting prior to regular Board meetings during the months of August, September, and October as part of the budgeting process for 2011. The various committees are starting their budget discussions as well.

• County Board Supervisor Dave Lineau was introduced at the August 4 meeting of the Board. He advised the Board of the various committees he is involved with and answered a number of questions. He will be making monthly reports to the Board on happenings at the County Board.

• The Bike Path Steering Committee has begun its work. They are scheduled to meet again on August 23 at 7 pm.

• The Town Board has voted to continue participation in the Door County Tourism Zone. The town receives 30 percent of the tax that is collected by lodging facilities within the town; 4 percent of the taxes collected are retained by the Tourism Zone Commission for its operational expenses. The remainder goes to the Door County Visitor Bureau to market Door County as a tourist destination. Our representative on the Tourism Commission is Supervisor Nancy Goss
