Lost and homeless animals from every part of our extended county are welcome at the Door County Humane Society. Tony is a Liberty Grove guy who arrived in December 2011. He’s five to six years old, neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. Tony is adept at finding places in the lobby to observe all the daily activity.

From 60 miles south comes Titania, a Gardner stray who has been at the shelter for five weeks. She’s just been spayed and had her final distemper shot. Titania, two to four years old, is discovering life inside is much nicer than facing all the dangers around the Gardner Swamp.

Adoption costs are $90 for cats and kittens, $150 for dogs, and $60 for puppies. All animals are vaccinated, and spayed or neutered. Dogs have had a behavioral assessment.

The Door County Humane Society, located at 3475 Park Drive (County PD) in Sturgeon Bay, is open for adoption Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from noon to 4 pm. For more information call 920.746.1111 or visit

Salsa for the Shelter is taking place on August 3 in Sister Bay. Tickets to this spicy summer party are $75 each and may be ordered online at or by calling the Door County Humane Society.
