Dear Mary Pat,

I am growing so tired of all the political postings on Facebook. My main reason for going to Facebook is just to see what my friends are up to. I don’t want to be barraged by hateful postings about one party or the other. I don’t mind when people share their opinions, whether I agree with them or not, but some of the things I’ve read sink to a whole new low. I have very strong opinions on this election, but I chose not to vent on Facebook. I don’t think it’s effective for one, and I also don’t like to distance myself from friends who vote differently than I do.

Between the Facebook assaults and the political ads, I cannot wait for this election to be over!

Signed,

Less is More

Dear Less is More,

I couldn’t agree with you more. I too have strong opinions about this election, however, I keep them to myself or share them with close friends and family only, and even there I have to limit what I say. I can think of several friends on Facebook who are perilously close to getting unfriended due to the incessant, disrespectful, abrasive political posts.

I have been tempted to post political things that I have found either humorous or informative, but I know the initial satisfaction I might feel would be temporary. There would be rebuttal postings and it would stir the drama up with some of my friends. Not worth it.

Not only do with have to survive this election season together, we also have to live with the outcome. By most accounts, it’s a close race and people on both sides of the aisle are fired up. Whoever wins, let’s hope we are all accepting and gracious of the outcome and that we consider all of our friends’ feelings before we post on

Facebook.

Good luck,

Mary Pat
