On Saturday, July 13, George Zimmerman was found not guilty for the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Florida last year. Zimmerman shot Martin, but was protected under the state’s “stand your ground” law.

The verdict sparked protests around the country, but the Pew Research Center found that public interest in the trial was disproportionate among races. The race gap in public interest of the Zimmerman trial was wider than the O.J. Simpson trial.
