Eighty-eight new animals arrived at the shelter in July, one of our busiest months ever. The expansion was completed in the nick of time, so each of these animals (and the hundred more already here), can receive top-notch care.

The two-for-one cat adoption special is big news at the shelter – two healthy, lively cats can be adopted for $90 total. Perhaps adopt a set of zippin’ kittens, or an older, mentor cat paired with a baby? Maybe it’s as simple as black and white, as with these two May arrivals: Barnes, a 4- to 6-year-old male from the City of Sturgeon Bay, who arrived as a stray on May 16 and Brody, who was born at the Humane Society on May 18.

One other male who came to DCHS in May is Jake. This guy is such a sweetheart, with his Beagle/Bassett people-loving personality. His former owner entered a nursing home, so Jake was surrendered. He’s 8 years old and will do especially well with older owners or a single gentleman. Jake looks forward to settling into his forever home soon so he can watch football on the couch. Dog adoption fee is $150.

All animals are spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and micro-chipped.

The Door County Humane Society, located at 3475 Park Drive (County PD), Sturgeon Bay, is open for adoption Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon – 4 pm. For more information call 920.746.1111 or visit

Bark by the Bay is coming up at Martin Park on Saturday, Aug. 24.
