Currently at the shelter, more than 150 bright-eyed, healthy and beautiful cats await their perfect new family. Marmalade, tortoiseshell or tuxedo? We’ve got them all. Long-hair or short, laidback or zipping around the room? The shelter has all personality types, an assortment of ages, and a range of cuddly or independent cats.

The bumper crop of kittens this year, in addition to a large number of surrendered and lonely strays, means the cat of your dreams is in residence at the Door County Humane Society (DCHS). Our Facebook page or website has all the endearing faces. DCHS also invites the community to step inside one of six cat colony rooms to meet these spayed/neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped companions.

The 2-for-1 adoption special ($90) continues because cats do well when adopted as a pair.

Bark by the Bay, the annual pets and people celebration fundraiser for the Humane Society, is Aug. 24. Bring a love of animals, and dog or cat, to Martin Park on 3rd Avenue & Oregon Street, to meet up with dozens of like-minded pet owners. Everyone is welcome to be a part of this important event benefitting the operating budget of the shelter.

Registration cost is $25, covering all the amenities including lunch. Look for the tent beginning at 9 am. The walk begins at 10 am.

Adoption costs are $90 for cats and $150 for dogs. All animals are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped.

The Door County Humane Society, located at 3475 Park Drive (County PD) in Sturgeon Bay, is open for adoption Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from noon – 4 pm. For more information call 920.746.1111 or visit dooranimals.com.
