Polydactyl Jewel is proud of her extra toes, and happily shows them off to all who visit her. A polydactyl cat has a congenital physical anomaly, a type of cat body-type genetic mutation that causes the cat to be born with more than the usual number of toes on one or more of its paws. Ernest Hemingway famously loved his polydactyl cats in Key West. Jewel didn’t travel from Florida, as far as we know; she was a stray found along Cherry Road in Sevastopol in December 2013. This gem of a longhaired calico/tabby is two to four years old, spayed, vaccinated and chipped. Come meet Jewel and count her toes soon. The cat adoption fee is $90.

The Door County Humane Society, located at 3475 Park Drive (County PD – the road to Potawatomi State Park), Sturgeon Bay, is open for adoption Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon – 4 pm. For more information call 920.746.1111 or visit dooranimals.com.
