Dear Mary Pat,

I was wandering into a gas station with garbage and recycle cans right outside the door. I had a couple empty soda bottles and plopped them into the bright green recycle can while a lady behind me dropped her empty bottle into the garbage can!

I transferred her bottle from the stinky, icky garbage can (along with three other empty bottles!) after she entered the building, but I seriously considered saying something. What would you have done?

Signed,

Dear Seeing Green,

You know what they say, “You can lead a horse to water…”

It’s unfortunate that this woman couldn’t apparently read the word RECYCLING. It takes such little effort when someone has gone to the trouble to put a recycling bin so near the garbage can.

That was very kind of you to transfer the bottles. I fear that even if you would have said something, it might not have made a difference. Some people just don’t see how important it is. Just like everything else in life, you will just have to do your part and hope that people start paying attention to the world around them.

Good luck,

Mary Pat
