Peninsula State Park and Northern Door Girl Scouts are hosting the 9th Annual Spook-tacular Hike on Saturday, October 9. The event will run from 4 – 7:30 pm at Peninsula’s amphitheater parking lot across from Nicolet Beach. A bonfire with refreshments and children’s games will begin at 4 pm. At 5 pm, families can walk a one-mile, candle-lit trail to meet friendly woodland characters.

“The Spook-tacular Hike helps children learn about Wisconsin animals like bats and wolves,” said Kathleen Harris, Peninsula State Park Naturalist. “Little goblins might want to walk the trail at dusk, when the 300 candles are just beginning to glow. Once the skies darken, the trail becomes more mysterious, which is especially fun for older kids and those adults looking for a Halloween adventure.”

This year, eighth grade Girl Scouts will be selling hotdogs, trail mix, and cider to raise money for a 2011 trip to Savannah, Georgia, the birthplace of Girl Scout founder, Juliette Gordon Lowe.

Smokey Bear will greet young spooks at the trail’s end, handing out goodie bags supplied by Door County Memorial Hospital and Baylake Bank to those age ten and younger (while bags last).

The suggested donation for the event is $2 for adults and $1 for children. A state park vehicle sticker is required.
