A Day off in Door County

Oh, I love days off in Door County. I love mornings, afternoons, and evenings off in Door County – there is so much, too much, to do and see and eat.

So if I had one day, a single day with a friend in tow, I would begin at Espresso Lane in Baileys Harbor and grab a cup of their home-brewed coffee to go.

Coffee in the cup holder, I would drive down Highway 57 to my favorite Door County park, Cavepoint Park near Jacksonport. The park offers rocks and ledges perfect for traversing alongside the shore. (Careful: the rocks can get slippery!)

From there, I would stop at Wood Orchard, north of Egg Harbor, to sample some of their delicious dried fruits, pastry items, and homemade salsas. I would grab a Norzwich at the Fish Creek Market and stop by Brilliant Stranger to view and try on any new jewelry or clothing items. I might just have to indulge in some frozen custard at Malibu Moos, near the Fish Creek Marina.

Though I may feel a bit bloated, I would put on my swimsuit and lie in the sun on the grassy beach of Sister Bay, jumping off the dock at least once or twice…as long as the temperature allows.

For dinner: Fred and Fuzzy’s, where I can enjoy a beer and watch the sunset. I might end the evening by seeking out some live music or checking out the recent flick showing at the Skyway Drive-In Theatre, south of Ephraim.
