A Glorious Breakfast

Morning Glory opens a second location in Sturgeon Bay

I love breakfast: classic American diner breakfast food. So much so that at seven months pregnant, I woke up my husband at 5 am so we could drive 30 minutes south to Morning Glory off Highway 57 and be back in time for my 7:30 am work shift. I’ll admit, that morning my pregnancy cravings made me go a tad overboard: two eggs sunny-side up, Texas toast, hash browns, sausage, bacon and waffles – though I blame that one on just how good Morning Glory’s waffles are.

Although my postpartum brain is a bit more level headed, my love for Morning Glory’s breakfast hasn’t changed. Imagine my delight when the restaurant announced that a second location, Morning Glory by the Bay, was opening up in downtown Sturgeon Bay on 3rd Avenue.

“We felt there was a need for a good breakfast place in town,” said co-owner Nerymar Ramirez, “and the opportunity came up when we spotted the ‘For Rent’ sign in the window.”

The new building is small and charming, and even though only about 10 tables make up the dining room, it has beautiful, open windows that offer a glimpse of the harbor and overlook some lovely green space. They bring in abundant natural light, which makes the space feel larger.

The first time we went for breakfast at the new location, wiggling toddler in tow, the staff helped put the tables together, brought out the booster, and even installed it for us, entertaining said toddler throughout our visit with waves, sweet comments and making sure he had plenty of crayons and coloring pages to get him through, manners still intact. It’s definitely a family restaurant, courtesy of its welcoming environment and high-quality food.

Personally, I’m partial to a more classic breakfast – eggs, hash browns, bacon and the like – but my husband swears by Morning Glory by the Bay’s hash brown omelette. He’s told me more than once that it’s everything you want for breakfast on one plate: two eggs, diced ham, onions, green peppers and mushrooms, all nestled under a heaping portion of hash browns topped with cheese sauce, plus a side of toast.

Ramirez said the reception has been very good, and every time I’ve been to the new location, even during the middle of the week, it’s always bustling.

“We want to thank everyone that has come out to support us at both of our locations and hope that we can continue to offer the best breakfast and service for everyone,” Ramirez said.

Morning Glory by the Bay, 306 S. 3rd Ave. in Sturgeon Bay, is open Monday-Saturday, 6 am – 2 pm, with no plans to change as winter approaches.
