A Manhattan Show

“Father” by Bren Sibilsky.

Bren Sibilsky, an Algoma artist, was recently juried into the Manhattan Arts International show, Celebrate The Healing Power of Art 2014. The show’s purpose is to promote the idea that art heals by transforming one’s physiological state and perception.

Sibilsky’s work titled “Father” received an Award of Excellence in this worldwide show. Entries were judged based on how well the art related to the theme, technical skill, originality and innovation. The artwork, a charcoal and conte pencil drawing was done while Sibilsky visited her father Donny, who has been battling cancer for the last 13 years. The process has therapeutic for both of them, as well as the rest of the family. The artwork has been very warmly received by many others who share a similar circumstance of a loved one battling cancer.

Sibilsky is currently planning for a lost wax bronze casting class at The Algoma Atelier of Sculpture and Art (her newly remodeled teaching facility) with professional instructors Ken and Mary Davidson the week of September 8 – 13 with the onsite bronze pour on Sept. 12. Reservations are required and there is a six-student limit. Sign-up has already started and a waiting list will be started if needed. To register, call 920.487.4200 or visit brensculpture.com.
