Swim team relishes state experience

The Sturgeon Bay Co-op boys swimming team placed 12th at the Division 2 state meet Feb. 21.

The Clippers finished with 83 points. Edgewood won its second consecutive state title with 293 points, and Cedarburg was runner-up with 265.

Senior Brock Aune finished a stellar career by having a hand in 73 of the Clippers’ points. He placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 0:57.86, just 1.31 seconds behind winner Ben Ramminger of DeForest. Aune took sixth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 0:22.17. Less than a second separated the top six places.

Aune teamed up with Luke Bousley, Jacob Norton and Ethan Almstadt to place eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.36. Aune, Norton, Connor Thompson and Almstadt placed eighth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.45.

“Overall though, this season has been more about the team than myself,” Aune said. “We’ve accomplished some huge things that this team hasn’t done in years. I think we’re finally starting to build this program to a huge threat on the state level, and I’m glad to be part of this process.”

Sophomore Jacob Norton turned in a time of 1:01.85 to place 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sophomore Drew Rass came in 13th with a time of 1:02.45.
