A New Twist for an Ongoing Highway Project

A new development that may satisfy all parties arose at the 11th hour, causing the Village of Egg Harbor to table its discussion and decision May 10 on which option the board would select for parking solutions in the heart of the village as part of the Highway 42 redevelopment project – for which the village had borrowed only minutes previously.

Village board president John Heller said the owners of Door County Massage had offered to sell the building to the village. The log-cabin–style building at 7818 Hwy 42 – just south of Greens N Grains and the Main Street Shops – is located in the right-of-way and is also at the locus of discussions about where on-street parking should go. Heller said he learned of the opportunity only the evening before the village’s May 10 meeting.

“There’s a lot of information to digest,” Heller said.

A few ideas were contributed during that May 10 meeting about what the property could be used for if the village purchased it and tore down the building, such as public restrooms and parking. But the board tabled its discussion until Tuesday, May 23, when it will have a special village board meeting to review the new information.

“Some things are coming our way that I think would satisfy everybody,” said village board trustee Lisa Van Laanen.
