A Poet with Passion

Christine Swanberg is the featured reader for the UUFDC Dickinson Poetry Series on Aug. 13 at 7 pm.

Swanberg has won many poetry awards and was nominated for a Pushcart. A teacher for forty years, she now gives workshops and readings around the country and was a regular presenter for The Clearing Folk School in Ellison Bay for several years. Gardening, horses, traveling, music, animals and romantic love are passions that inform her work.

Swanberg has published poems in journals such as The Beloit Poetry Journal, The Louisville Review, and Spoon River Quarterly. Among her collections are The Tenderness of Memory (Plainview, 1995), The Red Lacquer Room (Chiron, 2000), Who Walks among the Trees with Charity (Wind, 2005), and The Alleluia Tree (Puddin’head Press). An internal chapbook, Sonnets and Other Incantations, is forthcoming from Minotaur.

On the second Wednesday of every month the Dickinson Poetry Series features a reading by a local or regional poet followed by an open mic and reception. The public is welcome, and admission is free. The UUF is located at 10341 Highway 42 in Ephraim. For more information visit uufdc.org or call 920.854.7559.
