A Quilt Trip

Cherry Delight quilt

Sue and Joe Jarosh, owners of Jacksonport Craft Cottage, recently returned from their annual spring trip to visit the Amish. The 2,500-mile drive takes them to families in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana. While in Pennsylvania the couple stayed near Lancaster in the home of Anna and Reuben Lapp.

From Pennsylvania, the Jaroshs continued to Ohio where they gathered other Amish quilts, wall hangings, table runners and placemats. Rosie Miller from Berlin, Ohio surprised Sue with a customer favorite, the “Cherry Delight” quilt. Miller made this quilt two years ago and everyone wanted it. She was no longer able to find the six different cherry fabric designs to make another. Last fall she traveled to the Smokey Mountains and found a fabric shop with all the patterns she needed. Sue brought back two of these quilts to her Jacksonport shop.

Another quilter, specializing in crib-sized quilts, created beautiful patterns for the crib that replicate many old favorite patterns: Dresden plate, Irish chain, Sunny Days, Sunbonnet Sue and Scotty Dog. All these crib quilts come with a sleeve so they can also be used as wall hangings.

Jacksonport Craft Cottage Gifts, located at 6275 Highway 57, is open 9 am to 5 pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday; and daily beginning May 1.
