A Simple, Natural Holiday Celebration at The Ridges of Door County

Take a break from the chaos of the holiday season and spend a few hours surrounded by the natural beauty of The Ridges Sanctuary. The Ridges’ Natural Christmas event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 3 – 6 pm at the Marshall Cabin in Baileys Harbor. There is no charge for this family-friendly event.

The Ridges’ staff and volunteers are decorating for Christmas and want to share their joy in the season and this beautiful natural area with the community. Sit around a crackling fire to toast marshmallows, enjoy hot cocoa or cider and cookies, or take a trip up to the lantern room of the Baileys Harbor Rangelights to take in the view of luminaries lining the boardwalk. Live music will help to set the holiday mood.

Both kids and adults can make natural decorations for the tree and other simple Christmas crafts. Visitors can also make a wreath using fresh-cut greens ($5 donation per wreath to cover costs).

Ridges naturalists will lead visitors through the twilight forest during a short hike that will end on the Rangelight boardwalk. The Upper Rangelight will be open so that visitors can also visit the lantern room and view the boardwalk as the lightkeepers did in the past.

The Ridges Sanctuary is located just north of Baileys Harbor at 8288 Hwy Q. Trails are open to the public year round for a small fee (members may hike at no charge).
