A Summer of Free Music

The summer of live music has just begun, and there are opportunities to take in a free concert all week long and all summer long. Here’s a roundup of the area municipalities that are offering concerts in their parks.

Ephraim

Go for the music, and stay for the sunset and views over the water every Monday, 6-8 pm, during Evenings in Ephraim at the Harborside Park gazebo. Make yourself comfortable in the grass while listening to Jeanne Kuhns and George Sawyn on July 12, Katie Dahl on July 19, and Mighty Mouth on July 26.

Fish Creek

Pack a blanket or chair, and check out concerts by professional local and visiting musicians on Tuesdays, 4-6 pm, in Noble Square Park, right in the heart of Fish Creek. Upcoming performers include The Cherry Pickers on July 6, the Birch Creek Jazz Ambassadors on July 13, and Talk of the Town on July 20.

Sturgeon Bay

Sturgeon Bay kicked off Harmony by the Bay this month at Martin Park and will continue the series on Wednesdays, 7-9 pm, during the summer to offer blues, rock, country and jazz – something for everyone. Look forward to hearing Cathy Grier and the Troublemakers on July 14, The Missiles and Music of Neil Young on July 21, and The Third Wheels on July 28.

Sister Bay

Sister Bay welcomes the return of both movies (Sundays at dusk) and Wednesday concerts this summer at the Sister Bay Performance Pavilion in Waterfront Park at 6 pm, unless otherwise noted. Upcoming artists include Copper Box on July 7, Feed the Dog on July 14, and on July 21, the Birch Creek Jazz Ambassadors at 2 pm and South City Revival at 6 pm.

Algoma

Algoma’s free Thursday concert series takes place at Heritage Park’s natural sloping amphitheater, which overlooks Lake Michigan and the city’s marina. Audience members may take their own chairs, blankets, carry-in food and beverages, and they may also purchase von Stiehl Winery’s wines and Ahnapee Brewery’s beer at the cash bar. Look for Raine Stern on July 8, Big Mouth and The Power Tool Horns on July 15, Copper Box on July 22, and John Abbott and The Posse on July 29.

Baileys Harbor

Tunes can be heard all over Baileys Harbor on Fridays, 5-7 pm, emanating from behind the town hall. Enjoy the music of Seth and Mark Raddatz on July 9, A Tale of Two on July 16, and Terry Murphy and The Cherry Pickers on July 23.

Kewaunee

Kewaunee’s music in the park will take place Sundays, 5-7:30 pm, at Harbor Park, on the corner of Milwaukee and Harrison streets. Local organizations may sell food on select dates. Upcoming performers include Mocking Bird on July 4, Conscious Pilot on July 11, and Sugarbush Boys on July 18.
