A Truly Luscious Beer

An adult comic book woman in a pointy dominatrix uniform and an extremely awkward pose squishes a giant raspberry in one hand while the words “Big Lushious” written in chocolate on her back melt. The woman is posed against the backdrop of an even larger raspberry than the one in her hand. Big Lushious is a stout brewed with chocolate and raspberries, made by Founders Brewing Co. of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I’d passed it many times at the wall o’ beer, always taking note of it in passing and always thinking, I’m going to have to have one of those one of these days.

One of these days finally came. Even after I finally brought a bottle home, it sat for several days until I felt the time was right. I wanted to have a moment to enjoy it.

It pours deep black with a thick, brown head. The aroma is berries.

Wow! The taste is a six-fisted punch to the palate. An explosion of flavors and sensations. The prickly tartness of raspberries. The velvety mouthfeel of chocolate. The deep malt sweetness and tangential flavors from the variety of roasted malts. It’s an extraordinary assault on the tastebuds, a flavor-packed punch right in the puss.

It hit the palate so hard with an onslaught of flavors that after each sip sunk in, I had to shake my head and try to recalibrate. This is one big, beautiful, luscious beer. I think I’m in love!
