A Welcome Sign of Spring at Crossroads

Butterflies are a welcome sign of spring, and they should soon be emerging at Crossroads at Big Creek.

To learn how and what to plant to attract butterflies to your property, attend the Door County Master Gardener lecture about butterfly gardens on April 8 at 7 pm. Local butterfly expert Chriss Daubner will show slides of her prairie planting, and will help gardeners understand the life history and requirement of the insects and the plants on which they breed and feed.

On April 9 at 2 pm, “Doug Tallamy Live” will be shown. In this recorded presentation, Bringing Nature Home author Doug Tallamy will explain why butterflies are so finicky about where they lay their eggs, and why it matters.

Visitors are always welcome at the monthly meeting of Crossroads volunteer group; the next one is scheduled for April 7 at 6:30 pm. This month, they will plan for spring and summer events and projects.

These programs, held in the Collins Learning Center, are free and open to the public. For more information visit crossroadsatbigcreek.com.
