Keynote speaker Jill Heinerth is a Canadian cave diver, underwater explorer, writer, photographer and filmmaker. Her presentation is free, but donations are welcome.

Her multimedia presentation, “Into the Unknown,” shares the lessons she’s learned in the deadly arena of extreme underwater exploration and explores risk management, discovery, learning, failure, collaboration strategies and more.Heinerth has more than 30 years of filming, photography and exploration experience. She has made TV series for PBS, the National Geographic Channel and the BBC; consulted on movies; written several books; and produced documentaries. She was inducted into the Explorers Club and the inaugural class of the Women Divers Hall of Fame, and she is the first explorer-in-residence for the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, a recipient of Canada’s prestigious Polar Medal and the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences’ highest award. For her lifetime achievement, Heinerth was awarded the Sir Christopher Ondaatje Medal for Exploration. Her adventure memoir, Into The Planet, will be released Aug. 27.
