AFT’s Deer Hunting Musical Guys & Does Prances to Green Bay

Guys & Does, the smash-hit musical comedy about Wisconsin deer hunting, has just ended a sold-out, seven-week run in Door County. And now, the musical produced by American Folklore Theatre (AFT) is heading to Green Bay in December.

Almost 10,000 people saw the world premiere musical in Ephraim, but close to 3,000 others were turned away for lack of seats.

“This show apparently has legs – four of them,” quipped Lee Becker, who co-authored its book and lyrics.

Promising more bang for the buck, Guys & Does tells the story of Fritz Dingleheimer, a paper-mill worker eager to escape his dull routine by taking a hunting trip to the northern pines. But he finds himself traveling with Duane Puddles, a local oddball who knits and loves self-help books. Duane wants to marry Fritz’s daughter, Susie, and hopes to gain his blessing on the trip. Along the way, the two hunters encounter a magical talking deer, and tuneful hilarity ensues.

The book and lyrics for Guys & Does are by Frederick “Doc” Heide and Lee Becker, who together created the blockbuster AFT hits Packer Fans from Outer Space and Belgians in Heaven. Music is by Paul Libman, composer of AFT favorites A Cabin with a View, Muskie Love, Main-Travelled Roads, and this year’s summer smash hit, Cheeseheads, the Musical.

AFT Artistic Director Jeffrey Herbst directs the production. AFT co-founder “Doc” Heide plays Fritz, Lee Becker plays Duane, and Doug Mancheski (Guys on Ice) is featured in dual comic roles as a Texas big-game hunter and the talking deer he’s hunting. Sets are by Broadway designer James Maronek and costumes are by Neen Rock.

Guys & Does will open at the Robert Brault Playhouse on December 2 and continue through December 12. Performances take place Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 pm with matinees on Saturday, December 5 and 12 at 4 pm and Sunday, December 6 at 2 pm.

Tickets are $24 for adults or $12 for children (age 12 and under). Purchase reserved seating tickets by calling the Green Bay Community Theater Box Office at 920.435.6300. More information is available at http://www.FolkloreTheatre.com.
