Aging in Door County

Patricia Moore, an internationally renowned gerontologist and designer, will be the keynote speaker at the Women’s Fund of Door County annual Celebrate Women! Luncheon on Aug. 13 at Stone Harbor Resort.

Moore’s address “AGEing By Design: Living & Loving Growing Older,” will touch on her exceptional and daring experiment, traveling throughout the United States and Canada disguised as women more than eighty years of age. With her body altered to simulate the normal sensory changes associated with aging, she was able to respond to people, products, and environments as an elder.

Since 1990, Moore has designed more than 200 Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Environments for acute and sub-acute healthcare facilities throughout North America, Europe and Japan. ABC World News featured Moore as one of 50 Americans Defining the New Millennium.

Preceding the luncheon will be a panel discussion on aging in Door County. Panelists will discuss the issues impacting aging in Door County and identify potential solutions to address those issues. Panelists include Susan Johnson from Ministry Door County Health; Dr. Paul Maes from Aurora Health Care; Michelle Notz, Scandia; and Judy Dobbins from the Senior Center. The panel will begin at 10:15 am at Stone Harbor Resort. Doors open at 10 am and there is no cost to attend.

The Women’s Fund is dedicated to serving women and girls of all ages and stages of life to strengthen our county for long-term prosperity. Gifts to the fund support both current programming and continuing support for women.
