Algoma Community Band Presents “After Taxes” Concert

The Algoma Community Band and The Lakeshore Singers will present their annual After Taxes concert on April 26 at the Performing Arts Center at 7 pm.

Spring is in the air and so is the band and choral music. One of the numbers that the band will feature is in honor of a very loyal member, Minnie Holsbach, who died the past year. The band will play Big Band favorites, which was her favorite kind of music. Tap your feet to time honored marches, music from memorable musicals, and pop and rock music.

Donna Lou Lawrenz and Dave Meyer, a couple of the charter members who have retired, will be recognized and there will be a scholarship presentation to a graduating high school student, Elizabeth Truckey. Lawrenz and Meyer started with the band in 1978 and continued to play until 2016. They both loved to play and it definitely showed in their performance skills.

The Lakeshore Singers will start the concert with “For the Beauty of the Earth” and end with John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Tom Zenner will play the guitar and other featured soloists are vocalist Kay Hanna, flutist Kiera Bair and Daniel Mansur on the bongo.

Tom Mueller is director of the Community Band and David Robertson directs the Lakeshore Singers. The concert is free.
