Algoma Hosts Annual Wet Whistle Wine Festival

Wet Whistle Wine Festival 2011 will take place in heart of Algoma and feature a selection of food including the crowd favorite “Salute to Sausages.” This event will be held September 16 from 3 – 7 pm and September 17 from 10 am – 6 pm with music, wine tasting by von Stiehl Winery, and grape stomping.

The festival will also feature food from the Farm Market Kitchen, a shared-use food-processing kitchen that has been the starting point for about 100 businesses creating and marketing the newest specialty foods from northeast Wisconsin.

The local favorite “Salute to Sausages” sponsored by BayLake Bank will feature pepper jack brats from Konops, Belgian trippe from Marchants, and German and cherry brats from Door County Meat Company.

Of course the selections wouldn’t be complete without the Smoked Fish Pate sampler featuring smoked salmon from Bear Cat’s Fish House. The Wisconsin Cheese Sampler will feature local cheeses from Renard’s and Trega.

The festival will also feature lasagna with a choice of sauces made by Villaggio’s, Mama Jen’s, or Papa’s Kitchen.

The Farm Market Kitchen is serving an Italian Heritage Dinner on Friday in the Lake View Room of the Gerald J. Haegele Center adjacent to the festival grounds. Appetizers will begin at 6 pm. Reservations are recommended as seating is limited. The cost of the dinner is $15 with proceeds to benefit the Farm Market Kitchen.
