Algoma Youth Club Hosts Free Dog Leash Clinic May 19

On May 19, 12:30 to 1:30 pm, dog owners are invited to a free leash manners clinic at the Algoma Youth Club. Everyone is welcome but please leave pets at home. The clinic is part of a fundraising effort for a microchip scanner for the Algoma Impound Facility, organized by Algoma High School sophomore Sadie Olejniczak. The event is free, but a $5 donation is suggested.

Olejniczak discovered the need for the scanner during conversations with Cathy Pabich of Friends of Crescent Beach and Algoma police officer Tyler Tuttle. A scanner will allow officers to identify lost animals quickly without having to transport them to the nearest open clinic. The cost of a scanner is nearly $500, and Olejniczak solicited the first $50 donation from the Algoma Optimist Club.

Sara Krouse of the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce, Olejniczak, Pabich, Tuttle and sixth graders Bailey Kostka and Xadria Duffeck have created several events to raise awareness of the microchip program. One of those events is a booth at Algoma’s Night Out on July 24.
