All Ages Invited to Frog Walk at The Ridges

Flowers from The Ridges’ Logan Creek property.

It’s often said that in the spring a young man’s fancy turns to thoughts of love – well, so do those of awakening lovesick amphibians. Early spring is mating season for frogs and toads, and the wetlands fill with peeping, trilling and quacking as the males seek out their sweethearts.

Join a Ridges naturalist for a Frog Walk on the noisy evening trails at The Ridges Sanctuary on May 8 at 7 pm to learn about the watery lifestyle of frogs. Wonder what kind of frog is singing in your backyard? Hikers will also learn frog call identification techniques.

This program is suitable for all ages and a great way for children to experience natural habitats and active wildlife, so bring them along.

Adult program fees are $10 for Ridges members and $13 for non-members. Children under 18 are $5. Space is limited to 20 participants, and advance registration is required.

Explore The Ridges’ Logan Creek property with a naturalist as your guide. Spring hikes are scheduled on May 2, 9, 16 and 30 at 2 pm. They will be featured on June 7 and 21 at 2 pm.

Owned and managed by The Ridges, this 170-acre parcel is comprised of a variety of habitats, including upland hardwood forest, lowland cedar-hemlock forest and frontage along both Clark Lake and Logan Creek. Spring wildflowers will be in bloom and will make for a memorable hike. The hike will leave from the Logan Creek Trailhead, 5724 Loritz Road, Sturgeon Bay. Guided hike fees are $5/adult for Ridges members, $8/adult for the general public. Children under 18 hike free.

Spring is prime birding season. Backyard birders who feed birds during the spring migration can enjoy them right at home and encourage them to stay nearby throughout the season. Feeding Migratory Spring Birds on May 2 at 1 pm will feature instruction on fruit feeders for your backyard and also discuss hummingbird feeding. Pick up some pointers on proper placement, material use and the best foods for attracting a wide range of species and providing a well-rounded diet. Meet at The Ridges Cabins, 8288 County Q in Baileys Harbor. Program fees are $10/adult for Ridges members, $13/adult for the general public and $5 for children under 18.
