Veterans, family members and friends are invited to a free screening of Almost Sunrise on Jan. 26, 3:30 pm, at Hope United Church of Christ, 141 S. 12th Ave. in Sturgeon Bay. The 97-minute documentary about moral injury was aired on PBS’s POV.
Moral injury is the damage done to a person’s conscience or moral compass when that person perpetrates, witnesses or fails to prevent acts that conflict with his or her own moral beliefs, values or ethical codes of conduct. In Almost Sunrise, two combat veterans embark on a 2,700-mile trek on foot across America to seek personal redemption and healing as they deal with their struggles. This film is an unprecedented portrait of veterans and their struggles with PTSD and moral injury.
Attendees may stay for pizza and a discussion facilitated by Kim Rusch, readjustment counselor at the Green Bay Vet Center.
