Altrusa Club of Door County Sends Students Back to School

On August 13, the gym at the Sturgeon Bay YMCA was filled with hundreds of happy faces of children receiving their school supplies, and the many volunteer guides taking them through the Back-to-School Fair sponsored by Altrusa Club of Door County.

Ten of the young girls at the fair were sponsored by a generous grant of $1,000 from the Women’s Fund of Door County. The fund’s focus is on the well being of women and girls in Door County and investments are made in their educational opportunities.

These goals mirror those of Altrusa, whose mission is to advance literacy in the locale. In addition, partial financial support for shoes came from Salvation Army, funds for socks, underwear and school supplies came from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and Habush, Habush and Rotier donated many of the bike helmets.

Fundraising goals for the 2011 Fair have not been met, and donations for school supplies for disadvantaged children may be sent to PO Box 523, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235.
