America on the Move Week at the YMCA

It’s America on the Move Week at the YMCA Sept. 20 – 27.

The YMCA and the America On the Move Foundation are working together to encourage individuals to take small steps to achieve and maintain healthier lifestyles.

Families and individuals can participate in various activities that promote moving more and making smarter food choices. Participants are encouraged to track their “steps” taken while engaging in any form of physical activity that promotes well-being.

According to research by the America On the Move Foundation, making two small daily changes – taking 2,000 more steps (about a mile) and eating 100 fewer calories – can prevent annual weight gain of 1 – 2 pounds. The Door County YMCA will be sharing ways for everyone to make these changes, including health tips, community walks, and cardio poker.

A Family Fun Day will cap the week at both program centers Sunday, Sept. 27 from 1 – 5 pm, including open gym, open swim, obstacle courses, free caramel apple sundaes and more as the centers offer free admission that day. For more information, visit or call 920.743.4949 or 920.868.2660.
