“American Wildlife Art” Author and Expert Appearing in Baileys Harbor

David J. Wagner, national authority on wildlife art, museum director/curator and former Door County resident, authored American Wildlife Art – the first comprehensive reference book on this subject – and will give a public presentation Aug. 19 at Bjِrklunden in Baileys Harbor.

Wagner, whose national book tour began at the American Museum of Natural History, credits the Baileys Harbor Library for gathering many key research materials, and in 2000, he was recognized as the world’s leading wildlife art scholar at the World Wildlife Art Symposium, which was held Bjِrklunden in conjunction the 40th Annual Exhibition of the Society of Animal Artists in Door County.

Wagner will return to Bjِrklunden as part of his book tour on Aug. 19 at 7:30 pm to present a lecture on his book, which celebrated artist Robert Bateman calls “the definitive work on the subject for years to come, perhaps forever.” During his presentation, Wagner will discuss masterpieces by the most illustrious wildlife artists in American history, touching upon his 424-page volume.
